Jefferson Gun Club Newsletter, Spring 2009, Number 02
Spring is finally here again. Hope to be seeing you back at the gun club as soon as possible. In March, between 20 and 25 club members participated in our clean-up work day. We cleaned up sporting clays, skeet houses, skeet fields, and removed ten years worth of trash from behind the barn. The Board would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who participated in the clean-up. Future work parties will be planned soon. Anyone wishing to participate, please contact Mark Durbin, Jefferson Gun Club.
The QU and DU
leagues have started and are into their second week. We have real good participation this year. We just had our Central Zone Skeet Tournament
this past weekend. There were approximately
25 to 30 shooters from the State of Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana and West Virginia. This
shoot would not have been possible if it weren’t for the help from the
volunteers. The Jefferson Gun Club
would like thank these volunteers.
Beginning Thursday, May 14th,
2009, we will be starting our summer schedule, which will include new hours. The club will be open from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30
p.m. each Thursday until September 3, 2009.
Some of the future goals of
the club:
1. A member donated $600 for us to paint and repair our
sign at the end of the street.
2. Some time this year we hope to be adding new machines to
skeet field no 2.
3. We are in the process of replacing the rotten
landscape timbers on the shooting fields, repairing the tables and fences, and
adding new gravel to the shooting stations.
If you haven’t had the
opportunity to check out our sporting clays course this year, please do so. We
think you will find it very challenging.
The course has been modified several times. We hope to schedule a sporting clays event for the fall.
A member of the JGC Board of
Directors, Millard Dunn, is working on our website, where we will post
important information about the club and upcoming events. Check it out: www.jeffersongunclub.com
.
Our current membership is approximately 180 members. We would like to build on that this year. If you have a friend or buddy, please bring them out. We would sure like to show them what our club is about.
On Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 10:00 a.m., the Bernheim
Chapter of the NWTF, along with the Bullitt County 4-H Shooting Sports program,
will be hosting a Wheelin’ Sportsmen’s trap shoot. If you have the opportunity, stop by the
club and see this event. I think you
will be very surprised and inspired by the abilities of these sportsmen. Find out more about the Wheelin’ Sportsmen
at their website: http://www.wheelinsportsmen.org/wheelin/?SUBSITE=wheelin
.
*One final note,
Monday, April 27, 2009, Ed Dunivante, club president, had knee surgery. Let’s all wish him a speedy recovery.
